We hide our true selves behind all sorts of things: clothes, hair and makeup, behaviors, language, and social spheres, just to name a few. On Ash Wednesday we hear Jesus’ words urging us to stop concealing the child of God each of us truly is. There’s no need to hide—God’s love erases our shame and guilt for good.
The Bible readings for this worship service are: Isaiah 58:4-12, Psalm 51:1-10, 2 Corinthians 5:20b-6:10, and Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21. You may want to have ashes, dirt, water, oil, or some other substance to make the sign of the cross on your forehead when prompted in the service.
