Online Worship: Fifth Sunday of Easter—Pruning, Grafting, and Abiding

In the Great French Wine Blight of the mid-1800s (a real thing), grafting French vines into American rootstock saved the wine industry and made vines around the world healthier and hardier. Jesus tells a story where he is the vine, we are the branches, and God is the vinegrower, but what Jesus forgets to mention is that sometimes the vinegrower grafts in new and different branches. Jesus the vine, the source of life, abides in both old AND new branches for the sake of bearing fruit.

This worship service includes a thanksgiving for baptism and Communion as an extension of the table at St. Peter’s on Sunday, May 2, 2021. You may want to have a bowl of water and bread/cracker and wine/juice ready before you watch. The Bible readings for this worship service are: Acts 8:26-40; Psalm 22:25-31; and John 15:1-8.
