“O Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Today we celebrate the holy Trinity. Paul writes that through Jesus we have peace with God, whose love pours into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, giving us lasting hope. We celebrate the gracious One-in-Three, eternal Three-in-One, as we worship in community; […]
How do we understand each other in these times of fracture and fragmentation? How do we live into the ultimate (and sometimes uncomfortable) reality that we are all one in Christ, even when our thoughts and language and opinions are different? It’s not easy, but the Holy Spirit leads us out of our comfort zone […]
When Jesus ascended into heaven, he left the disciples behind wondering why, and with the tragedies of the last few weeks, many are also feeling the absence of God. But ascension is far from Jesus leaving us. Rather it is Jesus empowering us with the Spirit so that we may do God’s work with our […]
Alleluia! Christ is risen! We’ve all been through a lot in the past few years, and it’s taking us a while to “un-forget,” to wake up from the numbness and grief and remember how to live again. The women who came to Jesus’ tomb were also numb from grief, and it took time for them […]
Sometimes you devote your whole life to something, only to discover it isn’t quite what you thought. Sometimes the promised land doesn’t look so great after all when you actually get there. Our world is divided and polarized more than ever before. Anger and rage are just below the surface, threatening to erupt at any moment. In this volatile moment, we hear Jesus’ words: Love your enemies. Do to others as you would have them do to you. The “Golden Rule” doesn’t seem quite so golden these […]
Gravity can be humbling. Just ask any Olympic skier or skater who has wiped out during these Olympic games. But life’s falls and crashes have a way of humbling each one of us, reminding us that we cannot do it all alone, that we need God as a presence in our lives. And oddly enough, […]
We all have moments where we realize that we are out of our depth. Times when we are struck with the realization that God is very, very big and we are very, very small. Situations where we are forced to admit that we don’t have what it takes. Even when faced with what we lack, […]
God is love…love one another…love your neighbor as yourself. Love is a key foundation of our faith. So why don’t we just do it? Why is love, true, expansive love for all people, one of the hardest things we are called to do? Christ not only calls us to love…he loves us into love. This […]
